Arthritis Awareness Month 2023

Arthritis Awareness Month

Arthritis Awareness Month is an important and annual event celebrated every May to raise awareness about the millions of people living with arthritis. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 54 million adults and 300,000 children in the United States have been diagnosed with some form of arthritis or joint disorder. This is why it is important to recognize and spread awareness about the condition during Arthritis Awareness Month.

What is Arthritis?

Arthritis affects people of all ages, genders, backgrounds and life experiences. Common arthritis symptoms include swelling, pain, stiffness and diminished range of motion in joints, causing pain and stiffness that can worsen with age. The condition can limit a person’s ability to perform everyday tasks such as regular exercise or even dressing independently. It also has a significant impact on one’s mental health, as living with a chronic pain condition can be very isolating and lead to depression.

What Can You Do?

During Arthritis Awareness Month, it is important to educate yourself about the signs and symptoms of arthritis, its causes and available treatments. Some health tips include regular exercise (always consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program), nutritious diet and stress management techniques.

Resources That Can Help

By educating yourself and spreading awareness about arthritis during Arthritis Awareness Month, you can help to reduce the stigma around the condition and bring more attention to those affected by it. This can lead to better treatments, improved quality of life for those living with the condition, and a greater understanding of its causes and effects.

If you or someone you know is living with arthritis, take some time this Arthritis Awareness Month by putting into action some new healthy habits, providing encouragement to those in need, or even signing up for an event. Together, we can help make a difference!
