Hospice Care: Support for the Terminally Ill
It’s incredibly challenging and painful to know that you or a loved one is dying. There are so many emotions and so many questions, especially when family members are not sure how to act or even know what they should be doing. For many, the choice to use Hospice Care can be beneficial, both to the person receiving the care, and their loved ones.
Hospice care provides palliative and supportive care for the terminally ill and their families rather than curative treatment for the underlying medical condition. Most of hospice care is provided at home, but short term in-patient care is available if the patient’s conditions so requires.
In this week’s new episode of Family Comes First, we explore the profound care provided by Hospice and meet with experts from Good Shepherd Hospice to discuss the choices facing individuals and their families. We also will hear from Carol Steger who lost her husband Gerald. She and her daughter Tracy Ressa will share their perspective on how hospice helped them deal with their grief.
Additionally, we meet with experts Mary Ellen Polit, the Chief Administrative Officer and Derriann Page, the Chief Medical Officer of Good Shepherd Hospice Center who discusses what Hospice care is, who should consider Hospice care, and how it can be beneficial.
This all new episode of Family Comes First premieres Monday, November 17th at 1:30pm on Telecare TV. Each episode will also air on Wednesdays at 9:30 am and Thursdays at 1:30 pm & 10:30pm.
